I can't quite describe how excited I get over highlighters of any kind, and whenever I see a rather beautiful looking highlight on Instagram or on someone else's blog, I frequently make a note of said product's name so I can try and get my hands on it as soon as insanely possible! For some strange reason, I had never got round to buying myself the Sleek Solstice Palette though, despite seeing it appear on one of my feeds quite some time back, and immediately deciding that I definitely needed said palette in my life....
The shades of highlight always looked rather beautiful in this product, and I just couldn't wait to one day try it out for myself and see how glorious each shimmery colour would actually look on the skin. Despite this desperate want, I managed to put off getting this Sleek palette up until very recently - I had seen it on a couple of my past visits to Superdrug, but at those times had unfortunately needed to put other product purchases first, then when I finally had the money and means to buy it, it wasn't in stock in my local Boots store anyway!
However, now though it would seem that Boots have seriously (and I mean seriously) upped their game in terms of Sleek products, and now actually stock a little Christmas gift range of products by the aforementioned brand. To my surprise, within the group of Sleek products that I found in the Festive section of the store, there was in fact a little box set containing none other than the Solstice Palette....plus a Matte Lipstick too, in case you were wondering.
To be honest, it may be a little early to be buying the Christmas gifts (or maybe/definitely not), but when you see that said gifts actually contain a product that you have been after for the best part of forever, you definitely cannot resist. Plus, this little box set (sorry I didn't take a photo of the actual set itself, or of the lipstick, but I haven't actually tried that out yet) only cost £10, so considering that the Highlighting Palette alone costs £9.99, you are actually get a bit of a bargain here.
Of course though, I really should tell you all a little about the palette itself as well....because, what use is the story of how I came to own it, when I haven't even confirmed that this product was worth the wait after all....
Well, what can I say, one use of the four highlighters in this palette was enough to tell me how much I was going to love and use this little beauty in the future - building up my highlight, whilst trying to test all four shades that this item offers was pretty fun indeed, and the overall shimmery look that I got at the end was actually very impressive!
As you probably know (and can quite possibly tell from my photos), this product contains a range of different highlights, that come in different shades, tones, and consistencies:
(Going Clockwise from the Top Left-Hand Corner)
Ecliptic...is a creamy, nude tinted highlight that is perfect for blending into the high points of the cheekbones for a more golden, sun-kissed look (a very quick and easy way to make your skin look that bit healthier in the colder months). Plus, I am also currently loving using this shade to highlight around and under my brows, as it certainly creates a very subtle, dewy effect.
Hemisphere...is a more pink toned highlight (probably my favourite one of the four at the moment), which again creates a lovely healthy look when applied to the cheekbones, as well as when brushed down the bridge of the nose and also on to the chin.
Equinox...is a really lovely golden sort of highlighting shade, which just like Ecliptic looks great when worn on the cheekbones and elsewhere, to create quite a warm overall look.
Subsolar...is the final highlighter in the Solstice Palette, and is probably one of my most used ones due to its really bright shade and how illuminated it helps to make your cheeks look. I usually pop this highlight on first, then proceed to brush on a bit of one of the more shimmery shades on top (e.g. Hemisphere or Equinox).
Of course whenever I use this palette, I tend to just pile on every shade (obviously whilst still keeping my makeup looking pretty calm and not too shiny!), as I just can't get over how lovely each and every highlighter genuinely is....especially for only £10 (which works out as £2.50 per highlight). I was also super impressed by the fact that the glow produced by this palette actually lasts all day too (even when I'm getting wind swept by the Autumnal gales)...whether I would actually confirm this palette to be my absolute favourite in terms of highlighters is a completely different story though, as I do just own too many to make such a difficult decision - although of course I am incredibly pleased and in love with this particular one (as you have more than likely guessed from what I have said above), even though I am a little unsure about the little brush that comes with it, and prefer just to use my beloved Real Techniques Contour one instead!
If you are on the lookout for this gorgeous highlighting palette, like I was for so long, then now is probably the perfect opportunity for you to go out and get it - with the amazing Christmas range just appearing in Boots, the bargain set that I got containing this product, as well as a nude matte lipstick (that I shall try and feature in a future post too) simply cannot be missed, especially when you are practically getting the lip product for free anyway! Plus, considering the festive season is almost upon us, if you don't want to actually buy this set yourself, why not ask (or hint) to a family member or friend for it -which is something that I love to do, and totally recommend!
