Autumn Skin (and Hair) Care Saviours

Sunday, 9 October 2016

Autumn and Winter are rather beautiful months by all accounts, and are undoubtably full of the most exciting events of the year...e.g. Christmas, Halloween, Cute Cosy Clothes, Pumpkin Spice Lattes etc etc. However, there is an ugly side to these two otherwise magnificent seasons, and this imperfection lies in the hands of the weather - yes, the cold, windy, rainy weather that envelopes us throughout the latter stages of the year, and in the simplest of terms, drives my skin and hair up the wall!

There's rarely a day in the colder months when I can go out and keep my hair in the desired style (whether it be wavy or straight), as it always just seems to end up as a bit of a frizzy mess after about ten seconds of bearing the elements. My skin also seems to struggle a little against the torrents of wind and rain, and the spells of chill - of course though, I am not the only one who feels this way and because of that, I thought what better time than today than to share my Autumn Skin and Hair Care Saviours?!

Rodial Re-Hydrating Tonic - when I first got a bottle of this stuff (in a beauty gift set from M&S), I was more than a little apprehensive to use it! With it's full name being the Rodial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Tonic (whatever that may mean, I'm not too sure), I wasn't really totally convinced on what a hydrating tonic would actually do to my skin...would it actually freshen up my face, or instead cause great blemishes to appear everywhere?

Well, after giving this spray a go over the summer months, I realised that doesn't actually cause me to break out and instead with it's added Vitamin B3 element, does in fact give the skin a fresh glow when most needed. For that reason, I am definitely going to be making this product a staple in my skincare collection over the next few months - the autumn weather can cause havoc for my skin (what with the relenting deluges of wind and rain we are more than likely to receive) and I'm quite sure that having this little bottle close to hand will be 100% necessary to give my skin a boost every so often.

Balance Me Face Wash - what with the weather changing, and being pretty much all over the place in autumn (Will it rain? Will it be windy? Will it be freezing cold? Nobody knows!), my skin doesn't ever really know whether it's coming or going. Of course, this then leads to the usual outbreaks of blemishes and redness at pretty much any point, so for that reason, keeping my face clean with a decent product is really quite necessary. The Balance Me Face Wash is literally perfect at doing this, as it doesn't contain any nasty chemicals to make my skin any worse, and instead leaves it feeling fresh (and pretty darn healthy too)!

Percy & Reed Hair Oil - I also got this little bottle of hair oil (or No Oil, Oil as the brand actually like to call it) in a beauty box set from M&S, and was again a little hesitant to try it out. I wasn't really all that sure what hair oil would actually do for my locks, considering I condition my hair pretty regularly anyway - therefore, it took for me to actually give this product a go, to see what use it really has in my everyday routine.

Just popping a little of this product into the ends of wet hair can really make all the difference, especially when you dry, straighten and curl your tresses as much as I do (trust me, a lot of heat is being applied to my locks every single day). The ever-changing Autumn weather can again cause my hair a bit of trouble, and through the wind and coldness it does seems to dry out a lot more quickly than usual...hence why, using this oil (which, I can assure you, doesn't leave you with super oily hair that looks like it hasn't been washed in forever - especially if you only apply to the ends of your hair, and not to the roots) will absolutely be something that I frequently do over the next few months.

Bardou Smoothing Vapour - A few months ago, Bardou kindly gifted me with some lovely new hair products...firstly, there was a dry shampoo that I have practically worshipped over the past few months (you don't realise how much of a life-saver this stuff has been to me, especially when travelling, or when I have been feeling rather lazy with my locks), and secondly there was a smoothing spray, that although I love, haven't found myself really using all that much, until recently. As I previously mentioned, my hair does go a little crazy in the autumn and winter months, and therefore this spray (that you literally just spritz on to damp hair and then leave to work its magic) will be perfect for maintaining the usual frizz.

Lip Balms - finally, something that is pretty much a no-brainer, and something that I simply could not live without over the colder months. Being in possession of a decent lip balm is an absolute must when it comes to preventing that nasty chapping of lips that always seems to occur as soon as it starts to get that little bit more cold outside.

A couple of favourites of mine at the moment are the Burt's Bees Lip Balms (mine is in the flavour Pear and Coconut, but there are tons more to choose from if that doesn't exactly float your boat) and also the EOS products (which I know don't actually work when it comes to moisturising for everyone, but are something that I personally adore), that I recently stocked up on in the flavours Strawberry and Blueberry when I visited the US.

Most of the products that I have mentioned in this post, were at first something that I would never have thought to have tried before - yet, upon giving each and everyone of them a go, I have learned to love them and now value them pretty much as my essentials items for the colder months. Taking care of your body is really quite important over the next few months, and whilst I am normally super lazy when it comes to my skin and hair care routines, this year I am vowing to try a lot harder...and by making this post, and using these products, it should really be a cinch.

What items do you regard as your Autumn/Winter Saviours? Please let me know in the comments below...

  2. Loved this! My skin becomes super dry at this time of the year, so I have to make sure I'm really looking after it. My hair also drives me insane, at 7am it's straight, but by 7:30am it was as if I had just left it natural. It's annoying! On the other hand, I absolutely love this time of year, It's so pretty :) x

  5. Great reviews! I'm a huge fan of Hyaluronic Acid (it's just so moisturizing) so that tonic is particularly intriguing.
