For quite some time I have looked upon the cute little row of Benefit Miniature Beauty Items in my local Boots store, and what's more, have for some time thought about treating myself to one. Never in my life have I owned a Hoola bronzer (well, I suppose I did once own one that came in a set, but I didn't actually use it all that much), so the last time I went into Boots, I thought what better excuse to get a mini Benefit product, than to finally try out said bronzer!
It was quite tragic that I called myself a lover of Benefit makeup products, when I hadn't in fact ever properly owned or tried the cult classic and best-seller that is the Hoola Bronzing Powder- now however, I do believe that I have redeemed myself, and after trying out this product at long last I can openly admit to feeling very angry that I didn't start using this beauty a little sooner...
I'm quite fussy when it comes to bronzers, it must be said. Many of them don't suit my skin tone (many are too dark, and some are also too light which is surprising given how pale my skin actually is), and leave me with a pretty half-hearted, patchy attempt at contouring, which then in turn makes me feel like I have just wasted my money! Over the years, I have acquired a small collection of bronzers and contour kits that I know work well with my skin, and for sometime I did wonder whether Hoola would fit in with this elite group of beauty products as I have only ever heard good things about this seemingly marvellous Benefit product.
All too many times, I had asked a friend with amazing makeup which bronzer they used, or seen a photo of some great contouring, only to discover that they had in fact used Hoola to create such a look. Yet, for near enough £24, I didn't find myself all that convinced, and in honesty felt slightly scared about spending such an amount of money on something that might not work for me at all well as it does for others!
Therefore, when I noticed a mini-sized Hoola amongst the array of other little Benefit items on the till-side shelf in Boots, I just knew this was the perfect oppurtunity to try this much raved about bronzing product. For just a fraction of the normal Hoola price (£10 instead of £24) I felt quite happy to spend my cash in order to finally give this item a try- there are also many other mini Benefit items to try, and you can find them HERE (from what I can remember they include Roller Lash, They're Real, Pore-Fessional and others).
As soon as I got my Mini Hoola home, I just couldn't wait to try it out. I do remember that when I had a tiny sample of this product in a set years ago, I never really tried it because after testing the colour on my finger, it did seem quite light- in my swatch below, you can also see that the bronzing shade itself isn't all that dark, but I can assure you that once you layer a couple of strokes of the stuff into the hollows of your cheeks, it really starts to create quite a bold contour...
Since my first use of this product, I have found myself turning back to it more often than not when applying my makeup. Not only does it create a rather good contoured/bronzed look, it also sits well atop all of my base makeup and being Benefit has a fantastic quality which helps it to stay bold all day long. I normally just apply this product with one of my Real Techniques brushes (either the Contour or Sculpting Brush) as although the little brush that comes along with Hoola is a nice addition, I don't really like the style of it all that much and do prefer using my more favoured brushes to apply this lovely bronzing product!
On the whole though, I must say that I am rather glad that I opted to try out a small sized version of Hoola, as I now know that I would be very happy to treat myself to the full-sized version of the product in the future. I definitely think that these mini Benefit items are a fantastic idea, as they really help you to get a glimpse of how good a product is without spending lots of money in the process- trying out my mini item has proved to me that Hoola is really a great bronzing/contouring product that does in fact really work for me and my skintone (and of course this would apply to all of the other mini items too, and I must say that whenever I have the urge to try a new Benefit item in future, I will definitely see if there's a miniature version available to try first)!
Have you ever tried any of the Benefit Mini's, or furthermore have you ever tried the Hoola bronzer? Please feel free to let me know in the comments below!
