Instead of doing my typical monthly favourites post, this month I thought I would mix things up a little, and instead write about some of the purchases I have made throughout August in terms of Fashion. I really would like to start writing about style a bit more on this little blog of mine, so the other day I decided what better way to do that, than to compose my end of August post about such a topic...
August is a fantastic month in terms of fashion, as it is the time when all the sales start to appear in most, if not all, of my favourite shops. The late-summer month that is now near enough over was no different from any other year, and I managed to scoop up several lovely items from the sales as per usual- in this post I will just round up a few of the items that I stumbled upon recently (all of which seem to be carrying quite a nautical theme, which I definitely think makes for a nice set of colours to take through the transitional period between Summer and Autumn, as well as to keep in my wardrobe ready for next year).
Marks&Spencer offer quite a fantastic sale at this time of year, and although a lot of their clothes aren't really to my taste, I do actually really adore their Limited Edition Collection and in fact find it's contents to be rather stylish. I had had my eye on a few bits from said collection for a while, so when the sale appeared in my local store a couple of weeks ago, I was immediately raiding the Limited Collection rails.
The first item that I noticed was the gorgeous stripy trousers that you can see in the above photo- I had in fact spotted these gorgeous palazzo style trousers before in store, but hadn't really thought twice about trying them on, for fear of them making me look like a clown (and just generally not suiting me in the slightest really). However, seeing as they were in the sale for around half of their original price, I though I might as well just try a pair on...thank goodness I did finally take that plunge in the end! Not only do these trousers suit and fit me really well indeed, they have also really exceeded my expectations in terms of looks, and when simply worn with a t-shirt and denim jacket actually feel really chic. They are also super comfy, and will therefore make for a great item of clothing to wear whilst travelling (e.g. for when going on a plane, as I will be again in a few months).
Next up, and also from Marks&Spencer are my gorgeous new shoes which you can see in the above two photos. I only got these beauties a few days ago, after seeing them sat on the shoe sale rack, but am already in love with everything about them, from their style to their striking colour! I had known for some time that I really wanted to invest in some rather brightly coloured shoes (namely red ones) to pair with otherwise plain coloured dresses and outfits- therefore, as soon as I laid eyes on this lovely pair (and had tried them on to make sure they fit), I just knew I had to have them.
The final item that I'm going to mention from the M&S August Sale, is the below dress that you unfortunately can't see all that well (but don't fear, I will go on to describe it to you all shortly). I had seen said dress, just like my trousers, in store a few times before and had often found myself remarking upon how lovely it looked, and how much I would love to wear such an item. So, when it appeared among the list of reduced items a couple of weeks back, I eventually decided to take the gamble and finally get it...
Upon trying this dress on (it is basically just a striped, mid-length dress that has the added feature of fluted sleeves) I wasn't too sure whether I would in fact keep it or take it back to the store- it wasn't that it didn't fit or suit me, I just wasn't too keen on the look of such different sleeves. Eventually though, I came round to the uniqueness of such a dress and will now embrace its style, and hopefully wear it through the autumn and winter months (if not, I will be sure to take it on my holiday towards the end of the year, and dress it up with shoes like the ones above).
Now onto a couple of accessories, and firstly I will talk about my Kate Spade purse, which although I didn't receive in the month of August, have really been loving over the past few weeks. Whilst I was on holiday in California I tended to use this item as my general day-to-day purse, and proceeded to pop my money and essentials in it over the two weeks. When I got home though, I resorted to using my older purse instead as it is simply more practical thanks to all the card slots and zip pockets...so now, my Kate Spade purse is getting to be seen a lot more outside of my handbag, and is used as a clutch of sorts for when I go out and don't want the hassle of carrying a whole bag with me. Such a purse will also be perfect to use on future holidays of a night, when I want an accessory that isn't too over the top and can simply work with my outfit, and hold my phone and lipstick in at the same time!
Finally, there's another accessory that I want to briefly mention which I have sort of inherited this month. When my Mom decided to have a clear out in her handbag collection a few weeks ago (she is a bit of bag-hoarder to be honest), I quickly snatched the opportunity to claim the below satchel-style bag, which I always thought was rather lovely and was still in fantastic condition. I just love the pop of colour that this bag is sure to add to any outfit, and am incredibly keen to start using it now as we go into the Autumn months, to brighten up some otherwise more darkly coloured outfits (this bag is also incredibly roomy, so is perfect for me to store all my necessities in when I go out, and the little pockets that it has, mean I have great spaces for my phone and makeup etc).
(I literally couldn't think of where the bag was from for ages, but I then worked out that it was from a shop in Spain that we went to years ago called Springfield)
Well there we have it, August is almost over and this little round up of my favourite purchases of the month and recently loved items, really ends a great month on a high for me! I am very much excited for the prospect of a new season approaching, and the opportunity to re-stock my wardrobe and beauty collection with many new things is simply too much...although, I really have enjoyed the lovely weather of Summer this year, and have actually managed to embrace wearing more seasonal clothing thanks to the pretty much solid run of nice days!
I do hope that you August was just as good as mine, and I will be back again with a new post in a few days (when it will actually be September, which although exciting, is also kind of scary considering how fast the year seems to be passing)!
